Nathaniel Orr (1822-1908) was one of the most noted engravers of the second-half of the nineteenth century. Born in London, Ontario, he learned engraving from John H. Hall of Albany, New York. Orr moved his business to New York City. In 1846, Orr married Elisabeth Holmes (1825-1909) of Albany County, New York, the author of several books, including The Belle Heiress (Auburn, NY, 1849), stories, newspaper and journal articles, and poems.
